Rain in Tamil Nadu to reduce, to return by June 2

May 29, 2018 3:01 PM |

Lookalike March weather in Mumbai, Kolkata and Chennai

In the past few days, good rains have been lashing the state of Tamil Nadu. Particularly, the southern and interior stations of Tamil Nadu received light to moderate pre-Monsoon rains with one or two heavy spells. However, Chennai rains failed to make any appearance.

During the last day also, light rains were witnessed by the southern interior districts of Tamil Nadu. In the last 24 hours, from 8:30 am on Monday, Kodaikanal received 7 mm of rain, Coonor 4 mm, K. Paramathy 3 mm and Coimbatore 0.7 mm.

Now, we expect rains to reduce over most parts of Tamil Nadu due to the formation of two weather systems. One well-marked low-pressure area is over Southeast Arabian Sea and another well-marked low-pressure area is over Northeast Bay of Bengal. The winds will blow around these weather systems and so does the moisture content.

Both the weather systems are far away from the Indian coast, thus, rains over Tamil Nadu would reduce. As per Skymet Weather, dry inland winds will blow over Tamil Nadu, reducing the intensity over the state. However, isolated rains cannot be ruled out over parts of the state during the next two to three days.

After the dissipation of these two weather systems, another cyclonic circulation will form over Southwest Bay of Bengal which would most likely move towards Tamil Nadu and south Andhra Pradesh Coast. These weather systems will once again increase the intensity of rains over Tamil Nadu by June 2. Chennai rains may also witness rains during that time. These showers will mark the arrival of Monsoon over many parts of Tamil Nadu.

Gradually this system will move towards Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. Thus, the intensity will reduce.  However, scattered rains will continue over Chennai and Tamil Nadu. In fact, during that time, the temperatures are also likely to subside.
