Updated on February 23, 2016:Parts of Northeast India continues to observe good showers. For the past few days, rainfall activity has been observed over several areas of the region includingAssam,Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Mizoram, and Tripura.
During the last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Monday,Dibrugarhreceived a whopping 13 mm of rain,Pasighat9 mm, North Lakhimpur 5.9 mm. Isolated rain was also observed in Silchar.
The cyclonic circulation over Assam and Bangladesh, which has been giving rain over the region continues to persist. However, the trough extending from this system up to Northwest Bay of Bengal is likely to shift.
Rainfall activity will reduce over Northeast India after 24 hours as the rain belt is likely to shift towards East India. Thus, good rains are expected over areas including Gangetic West Bengal. Jharkhand, and Odisha starting February 24.
Updated on February 22, 2016: Good rains continue to lash parts of Northeast India. While some parts have observed light to moderate rain, heavy rain has occurred over isolated pockets. Higher reaches in Arunachal Pradesh have also witnessed isolated snowfall activity.
During the last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Sunday,Silcharrecorded a whopping 37 mm of rain, followed byKailashaharwhere 30 mm rainfall was observed.
Other areas to receive rain includePasighat26 mm,Dibrugarh14 mm, and North Lakhimpur 11 mm.
At present, a cyclonic circulation persists over Bangladesh and adjoiningAssam. Southwesterly winds from the Arabian Sea have been feeding moisture to Northeast India. Increased moisture combined with the persisting cyclonic circulation has resulted in good rainfall over the region.
Rainfall activity will continue for another 2 to 3 days. Thereafter, the rain belt will shift towards East India and Bangladesh.

Areas includingArunachal Pradeshand upperAssamhave been recording good showers. These rains can be attributed to the cyclonic circulation over Assam and adjoining Bangladesh region.
During the last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Saturday, Anni in Arunachal Pradesh recorded a good 19 mm of rainfall, followed byItanagarwhere 10.8 mm rain was received.Pasighatalso observed 2.4 mm rain.
Many areas in Assam also received good rains. For instance,Tinsukiarecorded 15 mm rain,Tezpur0.2 mm, and North Lakhimpur 14.6 mm.
More rain is in the offing for parts of Northeast India. Pre-Monsoon like activities are likely to continue over the region. Rain is expected during the afternoon hours with squally winds gusting up to 40-70 kph in some pockets.
While plains of Arunachal Pradesh and Upper Assam will continue to receive rain, isolated light rainfall activity is also expected over Meghalaya and Mizoram during this period.
These rains are likely to continue over Northeast India for the next 2 to 3 days. Sky conditions will remain partly cloudy to cloudy during this time. Thereafter, both the intensity and spread of rainfall will reduce significantly.
