The weather system over the country:

A western disturbance is seen as a trough in the middle and upper tropospheric levels, with its axis at around 5.8 km above mean sea level, running roughly along 74°E longitude to the north of 32°N latitude.

The subtropical westerly jet stream, with core wind speeds of around 125 knots at 12.6 km above mean sea level, continues to prevail over north India.

A cyclonic circulation over south Tamil Nadu now lies over the southeast Arabian Sea and adjoining south Kerala, extending up to 1.5 km above mean sea level.

A fresh western disturbance is likely to approach the Western Himalayan region from the night of December 27.

During the last 24 hours, light rainfall occurred over isolated pockets of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh.

Dense fog was observed over Uttar Pradesh and isolated pockets of Odisha, Bihar, Haryana, Delhi, and northeast India.

Minimum temperatures dropped significantly over parts of Punjab, Haryana, and west Rajasthan.

Forecast for the next 24 hours:

During the next 24 hours, isolated light rain is possible over coastal Tamil Nadu. Light to moderate rain may occur over the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

Minimum temperatures are expected to fall over northwest India, central India, Gujarat, and Maharashtra during the next 24 hours.

East India is likely to witness a drop in minimum temperatures after 24 hours.

Dense fog is possible over Uttar Pradesh and parts of Haryana, Punjab, Uttarakhand, and Bihar.

Cold day conditions are expected in isolated pockets of Bihar during the next two days.
