February 9, 2023 6:17 PM |

Light rainfall is likely over Punjab and Haryana, today and tomorrow. Northern parts of Doaba and Majha region of Punjab are likely to have moderate winter showers at few places on these 2 days. The southern parts and Malwa region will have partly cloudy sky with little chance of rain.  State of Haryana will have light showers along the foothills and the rest parts may witness only cloudy skies. More activity is expected tonight, extending till tomorrow noon hours and clearing towards evening and night.

Both the agri states have remained rain deficit by over 40%, since December 2022. Month of December 2022 was literally. Two short spells of consolatory showers during 2nd half of January were the saviour to break the jinx. Rainiest winter month of February, so far, has more or less wilted and still awaits decent showers.

An active western disturbance is passing across the northern mountains. Also, there is feeble induced cyclonic circulation over north Punjab with a trough extending along the foothills. Light to moderate intermittent rains are likely, commencing late evening hours, more effectively covering Pathankot, Gurdaspur, Amritsar, Jalandhar, Hoshiyarpur and Chandigarh. Light rains are also likely over Ludhiana, Barnala, Sangrur, Ropar, Ambala and Yamunanagar.

Clear weather conditions are expected next week. Strong winds during the day and rise in the maximum temperature is likely. Next west disturbance for the hills is likely to arrive around end of next week. However, presence of strong anticyclone over Rajasthan will preclude formation of any secondary circulation over plains. Subsequent to this wet spell, dry weather conditions may extend as far as last week of February
