Rajasthan Becomes First State Of North Breach Heat Mark Of Forty Degree

March 28, 2024 3:37 PM |

State of Rajasthan is catching up with seasonal heat. Little delayed, but temperatures have breached the 40°C mark over a large area, more so, West Rajasthan. Parts of East Rajasthan, bordering Delhi and Haryana, are also witnessing increased heat over the last 2-3 days. Pre-monsoon activity is likely to build up over the state.

West Rajasthan has recorded the season’s highest temperatures, in excess of 40°C, in the border areas. Some other interior locations have also witnessed soaring heat during this week. Border posts of Jaisalmer and Barmer have crossed the 40°C mark for the 2nd consecutive day. Even, Bikaner and Phalodi scaled a high of 40°C in the past 24 hours. Hottest of all was Pali, the interior district, sweltering at 43°C.  Jodhpur just missed the mark by a thread margin and clocked 39.9°C, yesterday. Even, the capital city Jaipur and the heart of Rajasthan-Ajmer, exceeded the 39°C mark, for the first time this season. There could be a slight drop in the mercury levels around this weekend.

Back to back, western disturbances are moving across the northern parts of the country. A small-scale induced cyclonic circulation is marked over North & West Rajasthan in the lower levels of the atmosphere. Heat over the region may act as a trigger for some pre-monsoon showers over these parts. Light to moderate thunderstorm/dust storm activity is expected over the next 2 days. Partial clearance is likely to come up on 30th March and a broad improvement on 31st March and later. However, this ‘break’ may not be very long as another spell, on a broader scale is expected to come up, around this time, during next week.
