Ranchi records first three digit rainfall of the season, highest in a decadeMonsoon rains have been lashing many parts of the country. The state of Jharkhand has also started to receive heavy showers during the past two days. So much so that the state capital, Ranchi has received its first three digit rains of the season.

During the last 21 hours from 8:30 am on Sunday to 5:30 am today, Ranchi recorded a whopping 117 mm of rain which also happens to be the highest of the season, breaking 2015’s record. Last year, the city has recorded 105 mm rain on July 10, which was also the highest in a season.

The all-time 24 hour rainfall record stands at 178.8 mm which occurred on July 23, 1958. Thereafter, the city recorded 102.8 mm of rain on July 9, 2008 breaking a 50-year old record.

Other parts of the state including Jamshedpur has also recorded heavy rains during this period. Both the cities recorded good rains a day before as well with Ranchi receiving 15.8 mm and Jamshedpur recording 22 mm of rain.

However, the last 24 hours have been particularly good for the entire state. The monthly average rains for Ranchi during the month of July stand at 336.6 mm. With the latest rainy spell, Ranchi has easily managed to record 133 mm of rain so far in July.

During the next 24 hours, the city is expected to receive more rains. Temperatures will stay in the comfortable range making weather conditions pleasant for the residents.
