Scattered rain likely over Delhi-NCR, intensity to increase next week

Scattered rain likely over Delhi-NCR, intensity to increase next weekSouthwest Monsoon made a delayed onset over Delhi-NCR by around two to three days. The national capital which was reeling under extremely hot weather conditions heaved a sigh of relief as weather conditions took a turn.

While Safrdajung observatory recorded 4 mm rainfall a day before yesterday, dry weather conditions were observed over the region yesterday. Not only this, other observatories including Palam, Ayanagar, Delhi University, Ridge, and Narela also recorded no rain.

However, some rainfall activity may occur over parts of the national capital during the evening hours of today. Due to increasing temperatures and high humidity, localized clouds will develop and the city may receive some rains. However, these rains will not be as intense and massive improvement in weather conditions is not likely.

Presently, the axis of the Monsoon trough is running South of Delhi and the Western Disturbance is also moving away. The cyclonic circulation which is currently over West Madhya Pradesh is causing the trough to remain slightly far away from the national capital. However, as the weather system dissipates, the trough will shift closer to Delhi.

Thus, around July 13 and 14, Delhi-NCR is likely to receive some good rainy spell. So much so that the city will get some relief from the prevailing hot and humid weather conditions as well.
