Severe Heat Wave Likely Over Rajasthan, Mercury May Breach 47 Degree

May 15, 2024 4:08 PM |

West Rajasthan has been the hottest part of the country. While the central and southern parts of the country are witnessing pre-monsoon activity and the temperatures getting suppressed, the state of Rajasthan has been dry and reeling under heat wave conditions. These conditions are likely to accentuate further and some pome pockets of the state will register the highest temperature of this season, the north and west regions being more vulnerable.

There is no active western disturbance arriving to result in significant and wide-scale activity in the next week or so. Small perturbations may cause localized changes, not affecting the broader scenario. Things are hot on the other side of the border too and the extreme heat will get advected adding to the existing scorching conditions. The entire state is going to register temperatures between 44°C and 48°C for the next 4-5 days.

The northern parts of the state will include Suratgarh, Ganganagar, Anupgarh, Hanumangarh and Mahajan Fieldfiring Range. The mercury is likely to stay between 46°-48°C over the area.  The border posts of Jaisalmer, Barmer along with Phalodi, Bikaner and Jodhpur will sizzle at 46°-47°C. The eastern parts of the state may be a shade better but still, soar with temperatures reaching or exceeding 45°C. Bharatpur, Alwar, Dholpur, Swai Madhopur, Kota, and Bundi will have a blaze of 45°-46°C.

Surface winds are going to be strong, resulting in extreme ‘loo’ conditions over most parts of the state. The excessive heat may trigger small-scale local circulation, which may cause whirlwinds and dust-raising winds. Dusty and strong winds may reduce visibility, affecting air operations. No early relief is expected for the state.
