Delhi smog made an appearance over the national capital for the third morning today and worried Delhiites could only wish these smoggy days would come to an end. Dense fog made an appearance during the early morning hours today and combined with the high pollution levels, a thick layer of smog once again blanketed the entire city leaving the residents blinded.
Pollution levels have also remained sky high again and both the PM 10 and PM 2.5 levels are over 500. As far as the Air Quality Index levels are concerned, there are as follows in several parts of Delhi: Punjabi Bagh 999, ITO 773, RK Puram 766, Mandir Marg 693 and Anand Vihar at 581.

Taking into consideration, the current weather conditions, the odd-even plan has once again been reintroduced by the Delhi Government to keep a check on rising pollution levels in Delhi. The scheme will begin on Nov 13 and last until Nov 17.

Currently, an anti-cyclone is persisting in lower levels south of Delhi. Along with this, winds are also very light in nature. Due to this anti cyclone, winds are following a descending pattern. Thus, these descending winds are not allowing the pollutants to get away or to disperse from Delhi and the NCR region.
Thus, similar situation is expected to continue for at least next 24 hours. Thereafter, we expect winds from northwest direction to pick up pace. This will result in marginal relief over the region. While visibility may improve, pollution levels will remain severe.
Thus, in a nutshell, pollution levels will continue to remain severe in Delhi and the NCR region for at least some time. Moreover, unless strong winds begin blowing over the region and some rainfall activity takes place, the pollutants will not completely wash away.
