Sporadic Rains For Delhi: Weekend May Have Decent Showers

July 4, 2023 1:27 PM |

The first three days of July have witnessed only light and isolated rain in some parts of Delhi. Both, day and night temperatures have risen to stay above normal, albeit marginally. The wind pattern is supporting high humidity, raising discomfort on account of warm and sultry conditions.  Meteorological conditions are building up for rainy spells on a couple of days during the week, more so around the weekend. Rainfall activity will be mild today, but sharp showers in some localized pockets can not be ruled out.

Monsoon has covered the entire country, a little before the scheduled time.  The monsoon trough is extending from Rajasthan to Odisha cutting across Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh. The eastern end of the monsoon trough is running south of its normal position but the western end retains its normal position keeping close proximity to Delhi.  Monsoon trough rarely remains steady and sways north and south, dragging the weather belt along.

A cyclonic circulation is marked over northwest Uttar Pradesh. Another cyclonic circulation is placed over central and adjoining North Pakistan, likely to move closer to the border areas of Punjab and Rajasthan.  Yet another cyclonic circulation is developing over the Bay of Bengal, off Andhra Pradesh and Odisha coast. Under the combined influence of these systems, monsoon trough will remain close to Delhi or may pass through and through the capital city during this week. Such a situation augurs well for the monsoon activity over and around  Delhi/ NCR  till the weekend.

Light to moderate showers are expected over the next 2 days.  Thereafter, the trough is likely to become active. The intensity and spread of weather will increase 07th July onward and moderate showers are expected over wider area.  Heavy spells at few places can not be ruled out. Good chance of this monsoon activity getting extended to next week as well, lasting till 12th/13th July. Sultry weather conditions are likely to make way for reasonably good weather providing relief from the typical sticky monsoonal pattern.
