State of Gujarat to remain devoid of Monsoon rains

August 29, 2023 2:54 PM |

The state of Gujarat received very good rainfall activities during the months of June and July mainly because of Bay of Bengal systems giving rains over these areas and cyclone Biparjoy which resulted in very good rainfall over the state.

However, as far as the month of August is concerned, the performance has been very poor in terms of rainfall. The state has hardly seen any rainfall this month. For the Gujarat division, the normal rainfall is 300 mm in the month of August and the region has only recorded 30 mm of rain. For Saurashtra and Kutch region, August rains normally are at 150 mm but the region has only recorded 5 mm so far.

The reason for such a no-show of rain in the region can be attributed to several factors. One of them is the Monsoon trough remaining north of its normal position, thus, not resulting in any significant rains. Along with this, there has not been any active Western Disturbance to cause rain in the area.

The only way some little rains received by Gujarat has been the moisture incursion and southwesterly flow of winds from the Arabian Sea. However, even these have been very light rains and nothing significant was recorded.

Now also, we do not see any chances of any significant rains in the region for at least the next 10 days.
