Many parts of Punjab and Haryana have been witnessing temperatures around 40 degrees or above between April 15 and 19. Scattered rain and cloudy skies have dropped the temperatures over Northwest India including Haryana and Punjab. Parts of North Punjab and South Haryana have been witnessing scattered light rain for the last 2 to 3 days. Isolated light rain may occur on April 23 and 24 as well.
Thereafter, the weather will go dry in both states. Temperatures will start increasing and may reach 40 degrees once again By April 27 or 28. Chances of heat wave are ruled out during April. We do not expect heat waves over any districts of Punjab and Haryana until the first 10 days of May as well. The reason for the absence of heat waves can be attributed to the pre-monsoon rain and thunderstorm which may start by end of April and may continue during the first week of May over Northwest India including Punjab and Haryana.
Pre-monsoon season of 2023 is turning out to be one of the rainiest in the last many years over these states. Crop damage was reported over parts of Punjab and Haryana during the second half of March due to intense rain, thunderstorm, strong winds and hailstorm activities. It is difficult to predict the intensity of rain as of now, but the chances of crop damage are less.
