Uncomfortably warm weather in Gujarat

February 17, 2015 6:33 PM |

Ahmedabad CroppedTemperatures have been rising across India but Gujarat is one pocket that is among the warmest in the country. The day temperatures in particular are settling 4-5 degrees above the normal average in the state.

According to the data available with Skymet Meteorology Division in India Ahmedabad recorded 34.7°C as the maximum temperature on Monday, which is 4 degrees above the normal average. Similarly Bhuj saw the maximum settle 5 degrees above the normal at 35.3°C. Amreli was among the hottest with maximum on Monday recording 36 degrees Celsius. Deesa and Rajkot also saw the day temperature settle at 34 and 35.5°C, respectively.

The rise in temperature is due to the south/southwesterly winds which are warm in nature. Also the weather in the state is largely governed by what happens in North India. And since the northwesterly winds are missing and the temperatures are on a rising trend in the region, the effect is being felt in Gujarat as well.

The high temperatures in the state have been sustaining for the last 2-3 days and there doesn’t seem any respite in sight. According to weathermen at Skymet the temperatures normally begin to rise by February and by the end of the month the day time really becomes warm. This is exactly what is happening at the moment.
