The state of Maharashtra is gearing up for another round of unseasonal rainfall. A Confluence Zone is likely to develop due to the merging of southwesterly winds from the Arabian Sea with south-easterlies from the Bay of Bengal.

In the wake of this convergence, scattered light rain may commence in parts of Vidarbha and Marathwada on December 30. By December 31 or January 1, we expect a few intense spells of rain in these two meteorological divisions. There are also chances of hailstorm activities during this time frame. Meanwhile, East Madhya Maharashtra may receive isolated showers.

Nagpur, Akola, Amravati, Gondia, Chandrapur, Nanded, Latur, Parbhani and Aurangabad are likely to witness these rains.

On the contrary, the weather of Konkan and Goa would remain almost dry. Mumbai, Thane, Dahanu, Sindhudurg, Ratnagiri and Pune are expected to be almost dry with isolated thundery activity.

For the next few days, minimums would settle above normal with an increase in night temperatures of South Madhya Maharashtra, Vidarbha and Marathwada. On the other hand, the temperatures of Mumbai and North Madhya Maharashtra are likely to see a drop by 3 to 4 degrees Celcius. All these weather conditions are expected to continue until January 2.
