Unseasonal Showers Likely In Gujarat, Mercury May Stay Above 40 Degree

May 10, 2024 4:52 PM |

The state of Gujarat mostly remains dry and hot during the pre-monsoon season. Rains, if any remain limited to South Coastal Gujarat covering  Valsad, Vapi, Navsari, Surat, and Bharuch.  Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar, Rajkot, Bhuj, and Naliya observe extreme heat conditions, without a break. Twist in the weather conditions is likely and Central & North Gujarat will have some pre-monsoon rains. The light weather activity may spill over to eastern parts of Saurashtra.

Active pre-monsoon conditions will prevail over South India. A trough will extend off the coast overland from Karnataka to Konkan and beyond. Also, under the impact of western disturbance and induced circulation, the northern plains will have pre-monsoon rain and thunderstorm activity. These two spells will have a simultaneous attack, between 10th and 15th May.

While the thunderstorm will vacate the plains by 13th May, the other activity over Konkan, Madhya Maharashtra, and Southwest Madhya Pradesh will continue. The two weather systems are getting aligned in a juxtaposition and therefore,  the state of Gujarat, getting sandwiched in between, is getting affected.

Light rain and showers are likely over Gujarat between 13th and 15th May. The activity will start from the eastern margins of the state covering Dahod, Godhra, Panchmahal, and Aravali in the central region. Simultaneously,  South Gujarat will have moderate showers along the coast lashing Valsad, Vapi, Navsari, Surat, and Bharuch.

The activity will travel westward and reach Baroda, Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar, Kheda, Anand, Sabarkantha, Mehsana and Palanpur. It will become further light to cover Saurashtra reaching Mahuva, Bhavnagar, and Botad. Far western parts like Rajkot, Jamnagar, Dwarka, and Porbandar may get left out. Most parts of Kutch may also miss this spell.

There will not be much relief from the high temperatures over the state. Interiors of central and north Gujarat and deep regions of Saurashtra and Kutch will clock mercury over 40°C. Since most of the activity will be during the later part of the day and night, minimum temperatures may ease out a little. A rise in the mercury with clear weather conditions is expected from 16th May onwards.
