Uttarakhand Forest fires: Rains to usher in some reliefUttarakhand forest fires have caused way more harm than one could have imagined. As per the reports, about 2500 hectares of land has been affected. The blazing fire has also claimed the lives of six innocent people. The areas to be most affected include Almora, Bageshwar, Nainital, Pauri, Chamoli, and Pithoragarh.

Until now, about 6000 firemen have been deployed to take care of the severe forest fire situation in the state of Uttarakhand. Several agencies including three NDRF teams have been doing all it takes to tackle the forest fires in the region.

Recent reports suggest that forest fires have also wreaked havoc in Himachal. In fact, both sides of the UNESCO world heritage track near Dharampur have been burned. Train services were put to a halt for some time as stones and wood feel on the track.

The state of Uttarakhand has remained practically dry for the past few weeks. The Western Disturbances did not give enough rain over the region. However, a fresh Western Disturbance is approaching the Western Himalayas on May 3.

This system is likely to give rain over several areas of Uttarakhand during the next 3 to 4 days. As per the National Disaster Response Force, 70 percent of the forest fires have been put out. Thus, rains are likely to bring in more relief from the fire situation.
