Weather Activity To Continue Over Uttrakhand

July 12, 2023 4:36 PM |

Mountain states of North India were lashed  by heavy weather activity over the last weekend. Confluence of western disturbance with the monsoon trough attacked plains and mountains together during this period. Incessant rains for three days in a row derailed normal life. Himachal Pradesh was struck with catastrophic downpour inflicting heavy costs and  even causing casualties. Some parts of Uttrakhand also bore the monsoon fury, Plenty of tourist got stranded for days together, both in Himachal Pradesh and Uttrakhand.

Western disturbance has since cleared the region and weather conditions have improved, both in the plains and hills. Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, Punjab and Haryana have improved considerably.  Remnant of the system will be clearing from Himachal Pradesh as well, very soon.  As  these parts were ravaged with enormous heavy rains, the water bodies and the catchment areas keep responding even after the weather conditions improve.  Practically, the danger is not yet over for these parts.

Uttrakhand continue to have weather activity, albeit with lesser intensity. Monsoon trough has been shifting northward, closer to West Uttar Pradesh and Uttrakhand in the lower levels of atmosphere.  It is expected to stay close to the foothills for the next few days.  Accordingly, while Punjab, Haryana, Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh and Himachal Pradesh  may have a breather with mild activity, state of Uttrakhand will continue with weather activity of varying intensity and scale. Rain and thundershowers are likely, intermittent in nature and moderate on most occasions. However, towering clouds and thunderstorms at few places, more so, for Kumaon Hills, are quite likely. Sporadic activity will continue till the weekend  and may be beyond. Caution need to be exercised by all, including the visitors on the approaching weekend.
