Delhi hotter than Rajasthan; records highest maximum of the season

Delhi heatUpdated on May 25, 6.09 pm (IST) - Delhi's summer misery sees no respite as maximum temperature in the city takes a toll as each new day passes. Maximums have been rising in Delhi and NCR and keeping with the trend, they have increased even further. On Monday, the Safdarjung observatory recorded 45.5°C as the maximum temperature. In Palam, maximum touched a new high of 46.4°C. Highest of the season for both the Observatories of Delhi. The temperature is also the second highest for both the Observatories in last ten years. The highest  in last ten years were recorded on 24th May, 2013. 

 

Updated on May 25, 2.44 pm (IST) - Extremely hot conditions are being observed in most parts of the country, with several places recording season’s highest day temperature. The national capital Delhi also recorded the season’s highest maximum on May 23. The Palam Observatory saw the day temperature settle at 46.2°C, while the maximum at the Safdarjung Observatory was sizzling at 44.5°C. In fact Delhi is currently hotter than a lot of places in Rajasthan.

For instance, the maximum temperature at the Palam Observatory in Delhi on Sunday settled at 44.6°C, while Ajmer recorded the day temperature at 41.4°C. On the same day the Safdarjung observatory saw the temperature settle at 43.5°C, while Pilani in Rajasthan was a shade better at 42.2°C.

The Ridge and Ayanagar areas of Delhi on Sunday were also simmering under day temperatures of 44 degrees Celsius and 43.5°C, respectively. While the maximums in Jodhpur and Udaipur were marginally low at 42°C and 40°C, respectively.

Entire northwest and Central India, up to East India are largely observing similar weather conditions. The winds in the region, particularly in northwest India are hot westerlies, which are coming from the dry and arid land of Pakistan and Rajasthan. According to Skymet, Pakistan is also in the grip of intense heat as day temperatures at many places are recording beyond 45°C.

Weathermen at Skymet say that these hot and uncomfortable conditions are going to prevail for at least 4 to 5 days in Northwest India including Delhi. Though, there is chance of dust storm on Thursday or Friday, it will not impact the temperatures much.
