After witnessing five consecutive weeks of deficit rainfall, country finally observed increase in countrywide rainfall resulting in surplus rains.
The week between September 15 to September 21 recorded 38.1 mm of rain against the normal average rainfall of 35.6 mm. As a result, the countrywide weekly rainfall was surplus by 7%, as compared to the rainfall deficiency of 29% last week.
With this, countrywide cumulative seasonal rainfall for the Monsoon season is deficit by 5%. The country has recorded 804.4 mm of rain against the average rainfall of 843.7 mm between June 1 and September 21.
Out of 36 sub-divisions across the country, 14 subdivisions witnessed excess rainfall and 4 reported normal rainfall. Meanwhile, 7 were deficient, and 11 were scanty.
This week, major contribution came from Maharashtra, Gujarat, Coastal and North Interior Karnataka, Chhattisgarh, Telangana, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, and West Madhya Pradesh. All the regions have reported excess Monsoon rains.
With increase in rains, there has been significant rise in rainfall surplus for Central from mere 1% to 3% at present, while Northwest India continued to be rain deficit by 4%.
Both East and Northeast India and Peninsular India also remained highly rain deficit by 13% and 10%, respectively.
Skymet Weather predicts that good Monsoon rains will continue over Konkan and Goa including Mumbai, remaining parts of Maharashtra and South Madhya Pradesh. Scattered rains will also continue over Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.
Meanwhile, rains will now decrease over Coastal Karnataka and rest parts of Peninsular India.
In absence of any significant weather systems, Northwest India will witness mainly dry weather conditions.
