Rajasthan continues to receive widespread, but light rainfall. On Wednesday, Jaisalmer received 26 mm of rain. The cyclonic circulation, which is responsible for rainfall in Gujarat and Rajasthan, is moving away. However, we cannot rule out the possibility of some light rain in South Rajasthan during next 24 hours. The Monsoon trough is also passing through Bikaner in Rajasthan. Therefore, extreme North Rajasthan could also receive some rain.

Updated on July 22, 2015, 12:30 PM (IST): Gujarat receives widespread Monsoon rains after a long gap

As have been reiterated by Skymet, Gujarat has not received any significant rainfall in the month of July so far. However, the cyclonic circulation over Kutch and adjoining Rajasthan region has brought fairly widespread Monsoon showers in entire Gujarat.

Monsoon showers will continue over Gujarat at least for next 24 hours. The belt is likely to extend up to Coastal Maharashtra as well.

Here’s a look at the rainfall figures in several parts of Gujarat during last 24 hours:

Gujarat rain

Around June 22, a depression over North Arabian Sea entered Gujarat and brought heavy showers over Gujarat. On June 25, Saurashtra was surplus by 120% rain and Gujarat region was surplus by 53%. Thereafter, rainfall reduced in the entire state and all the reserved surplus rainfall got consumed. As of today, Gujarat is the most rain deficit pocket across the country. Gujarat region is rain deficit by 58% and Saurashtra is deficit by 38%.

This spell of rain has come as a relief and we could witness a drop in the rain deficiency figure. By the end of July Gujarat could reach normal rainfall levels.

Updated on July 21, 2015, 5:30 PM (IST): Gujarat, Rajasthan to receive widespread Monsoon rains during next 48 hours

Fairly widespread rain and thundershowers are likely over Gujarat and Southeast Rajasthan during next 48 hours. All thanks to the active offshore trough along the West Coast. A cyclonic circulation is also brewing over Gujarat.

These two weather systems will increase Monsoon activity over several parts of Gujarat including Valsad, Navsari, Surat and Bhavnagar. Kutch will also receive light to moderate rainfall. In Southeastern parts of Rajasthan, rainfall will be fairly widespread across Kota, Bundi, Udaipur, Chittorgarh, Dungarpur and Banswada.

Rainfall activity will reduce by July 23 and the start increasing over Sindh province Pakistan.

Gujarat has received only two spells of very good showers during Monsoon 2015. The state witnessed the first spell of Monsoon rains from June 7 to 11. This spell could be attributed to the cyclonic storm Ashobaa, which initially developed as a low pressure area in the North Arabian Sea. It gradually intensified into a cyclonic storm and brought moderate to heavy Monsoon showers in Gujarat, before moving away towards the Gulf of Oman.

Gujarat received the second spell of rain from June 18 to 21. We could relate this spell to the depression which once again formed over North Arabian Sea and entered Gujarat. Thereafter, the weather was mostly dry over many parts of Gujarat. Only Surat and adjoining areas received on and off Monsoon rains.
