Rajkot receives 95 mm of heavy rains, flood threat continues
Heavy showers continue to batter Rajkot since 48 hours. In a span of 24 hours from 08:30 am on Saturday, the city has recorded heavy rainfall of 95 mm.
During the similar time frame, numerous places of Gujarat have also witnessed some extremely good Monsoon showers.

As per weatherman at Skymet, the intensity of showers are likely to ease now, since the low pressure area over South Rajasthan and adjoining parts of Gujarat is likely to move more westwards.
Consequently, the showers will now reduce over entire state yet sporadic showers will continue to batter most parts of Gujarat.
With these relentless rains, flood threat looms large over the area. Due to which, red alert has been issued by local authorities. Traffic has also been severely affected as roads have been swamped due to heavy showers.

Monsoon rains have continued to batter Gujarat with hefty showers since Saturday morning. So much so that within a span of 9 hours from 08:30 am till 5:30 pm, Rajkot has recorded heavy rains of 89 mm while Bhuj has witnessed 92 mm of rains in the same time frame.
According to Skymet Weather, as more heavy showers are anticipated to fall over these regions, no relief is as of now in sight. Moreover, these incessant rains have created chaos in parts of the state with flood threat looming large. Submerged roads and traffic chaos are also been experienced. On account of such torrential rains, a red alert has also been issued by the local authorities in Rajkot.

However, now, as the well-marked low-pressure area has weakened and persists as a low-pressure area on East Rajasthan and adjoining West Madhya Pradesh, heavy rains, though comparatively lesser are likely to lash the city and few other districts of the state.

Heavy rains continue to lash Rajkot since Saturday morning, with city recording 67 mm of rain in mere three hours from 8:30 am to 11:30 am.
According to Skymet Weather, no let-up is expected in the next few hours as well and more heavy showers are likely.
In past few hours, the well-marked low-pressure area has moved further westwards. This will keep the weather conditions conducive for more torrential rains today.
In wake of this, the local administration has already issued a red alert over Rajkot and advised people from venturing out. Several streets and roads have been submerged in water.

As predicted for heavy rains by Skymet Weather for Rajkot, the city has recorded a whopping three digit rainfall to the tune of 348 mm. Hence, counting on this, Rajkot is said to have surpassed its monthly mean of 253.4 mm in a single spell. Moreover, such heavy rains are expected to continue in Rajkot for the another 24 hours. Such continuous heavy rains may also result in the possibilities of flash floods in parts of the city.
In addition to this, these rains have been recorded as the highest rainfall in a decade as well. It was back in the year 2009 when Rajkot recorded heavy rains of 132.6 mm. Post which it was yesterday’s rains that created a history. Moreover, such heavy rains are expected to continue in Rajkot for the another 24 hours which may even intensify chances of flash floods in parts of the city.

In fact, rain bearing clouds were scenes to spectate from last 48 hours only with rains showing up soon thereafter. Overcast sky prevailed over the city since the early morning hours and hefty rains lashed the city thereby breaking a decade old record.

As per Skymet Weather, the reason for such extremely heavy rains over the city can be attributed to the well-marked low-pressure area which was over West Madhya Pradesh and adjoining East Rajasthan. Further, this system is likely to further move in a westward direction and expected to intensify into a depression within the next 12 hours.
On account of this, Rajkot is likely to witness more heavy rains for another 24 hours though the intensity of rains will be lesser as compared with yesterday’s spell. But there are chances of Rajkot experiencing a three–digit fall again.
