Hyderabad rains have surprisingly revived during the month of September. Usually the city receives less than 150 mm of rains during the entire month and is the second least rainy month of the Monsoon season.
This year, Southwest Monsoon has displayed a power packed performance during the month of September. So much so that the city received more rains than its monthly mean in a mere 24 hours.
For the past few days, the city has been receiving very heavy rains. These heavy Monsoon showers have wreaked havoc over the city resulting in flooding over many parts of the city. All schools have been closed taking into view the prevailing weather conditions.
Not only this, IT companies have also been asked to let their employees work from home. These conditions are likely to remain the same during the next 24 to 48 hours as the city is likely to witness more Monsoon rains.
So far, Hyderabad has been able to receive 407 mm of rainfall against its monthly mean of 132.9 mm of rainfall which happens to be thrice the amount of normal rains. Hyderabad has already been able to surpass its 10-year rain record which occurred in the year 2007 when 266.6 mm rainfall was received. The all-time monthly mean stands at a whopping 499.4 mm of rainfall which occurred in the year 1908.
More Monsoon rains are expected to occur during the rest of September. Thus, there is a high probability that Hyderabad may be able to break the century old monthly mean. The city needs a mere 93 mm more rains to be able to break a 108 year-old record which does not seem a daunting target as of now.
