Hailstorm and rain kill six in Bihar

Hail storm in BiharAt least six people were killed after hailstorm lashed several districts of Bihar on Monday. The affected districts included Patna, Bhagalpur and Lakhisarai.

Light rain was also recorded over several parts of the state. In a span of 24 hours from 8:30 am on Monday, Patna recorded 10 mm of rain, while Bhagalpur received 4 mm.

According to Skymet Meteorology Division in India, a feeble cyclonic circulation is prevailing over Bihar region, which led to the development of cumulonimbus clouds.

Cumulonimbus clouds are the vertically developed clouds with its top up to 14 to 16 kms above the ground level. Some of these clouds have super cells which have potential of triggering hailstorms, thundershowers and strong winds.

On Tuesday, Bihar witnessed formation of such clouds, which triggered the hailstorm along with light rain during the later half of the day.

According to media reports, a pontoon bridge at Danapur also collapsed due to hailstorm. This led to massive traffic jam between Saran and Danapur via Diara area.

As per the latest forecast, the weather over the eastern state will remain partly cloudy. However, there are almost no chances of rain or thunderstorm.
