Day temperatures have been rising in Northeast India, giving rise to uncomfortable weather conditions in the region. This part of the country is known for pleasant weather conditions and heavy rainfall throughout the four month-long Monsoon season. However, absence of Monsoon rains in the last couple of days has led to a significant rise in the mercury. The worst affected states are Assam, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh and Sub-Himalayan West Bengal. The depression in North Bay of Bengal and adjoining coastal areas of Odisha and West Bengal are contributing to sultry weather condition in the Northeast. The system is sucking away all the moisture from the surrounding areas. Moreover, it has also changed the direction of winds from southerly to easterly. The easterlies are relatively less humid than the former. But, in the absence of rains even the present humidity levels lead to uneasiness. Forecast for Northeast India
Seems like, the absence of rain has been reflected on the temperatures. However, the depression lying over North Bay of Bengal could possibly intensify into a deep depression and move inland within next 24 hours. It will gradually travel across Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh and finally reach Gujarat. We can expect the intensity of rainfall to increase over Northeast India after 48 hours, when the system will travel up to Central India.
