Baghdad sees rare snowfall, first in a decade, second time in 106 years

In a rare weather scenario, the city of Baghdad witnessed a blanket of snow. In fact, this was only the second time in the last century that the city saw snowfall. Moreover, the event was the first in a decade.

There is snowfall activity a common affair in the northern parts of the mountainous regions, however, it is very rare in Baghdad. In fact, if you compare its latitudes with India’s cities, it is the same as Ludhiana.

The last time snowfall made an appearance over the city was in the year 2008. However, it was not very intense and was a quick one. Since the year 1914, it was the first time that the snow did blanket the city.

With the rare snow came in the excitement of the residents who were busy taking selfies with the snow. Moreover, kids were seen play snowballs, however, soon after, it all melted away as the afternoon temperatures were on the milder side.

Cold weather in Baghdad is not common and winters remain on the milder side only. On the other hand, summers are sizzling for the city and the weather remains extremely hot between June and August.

There is slight possibility of snowfall in the next 24 hours, as the cold wave is not over yet for the city of Baghdad.
