Brace for severe weather across central USA this week

August 18, 2015 5:11 PM |

thundA severe storm is expected to approach Denver region on Monday evening, and by Tuesday it is likely to impact Chicago. This system will move into St. Louis and Indianapolis on Wednesday. Flooding downpours, damaging winds and hail are expected when the storm hits the region.

Tuesday will see some extreme weather where some of the thunderstorms will produce tornados. People on the roads in the region will have to contend with reduced visibility during the downpour. Flight schedule will also be affected by the storm.

These storms are as a result of a cold front moving from the Rockies and its interaction with dry air on the plains. This interaction combined with local heating will produce severe thunderstorms. These thunderstorms will move east into Nebraska and Kansas on Monday night. As the system moves eastwards on Tuesday the storms will become more widespread across much of the plains. Some of the cities in the line of fire of these storms are Des Moines, Iowa, Omaha, Nebraska, Kansas City, Missouri, Wichita, Garden City and Goodland.

North of this system widespread soaking rain will spread from South Dakota to Lake Superior on Monday night through Wednesday. This will slow traffic and could trigger localized flash flooding.
