California floods kill 1, overflowing river turns towns into Islands

The Russian river has breached its banks to the highest level in the last 25 years causing flooding in at least 2000 phones and converting two towns in North California into Islands. The flood has also killed one person.

Residents of these towns are being forced to use canoes and kayaks instead of cars. The driver reads up to 45.3 feet which is at least 15 feet above the breach level.

Towns of Monte Rio and Guernevile has been hit the hardest, they are just about 80 miles away from Sacramento. Water here was even up to 8 feet which caused the use of Kayaks by the National Guard.

A man in Ferndale was killed while trying to get to his house where 3 of his kids were trapped. He was carried away by a fast moving current while he was trying to walk in 5 feet of water. The children however, were later on rescued.

An emergency has been declared in five flooded counties. A hotel in Guernevile was submerged in 7 feet of water.

Flood warning continued to be in effect in the Sacramento Valley on Thursday as well. Rains have been white heavy with over 20 inches in Guernevile over two days. santa Rosa saw 8 inches in just a day.

On the other hand, heavy snowfall in Sierra Nevada came to an end, while another round of snowfall may be seen during the weekend.
