The first weighty winter storms of the season are likely to reach the United States of America over next few days. These storms are expected to carry in much colder air, which will spread across most of the central and eastern U.S. by the weekend.
Significant drop in temperatures is expected in many areas. The snowfall could create travel problems for motorists and fliers.
Winter storm warnings have been given for almost nine states, from Wyoming to Minnesota. The National Weather Service has also issued a blizzard watch for most areas of Dakotas and Minnesota for Thursday and Friday.
In the Northeast region, heavy snowfall should be in higher reaches of New York State, northern and western Pennsylvania, West Virginia, and the eastern Great Lakes snow belts by this weekend.
Cities like Pittsburgh, Cleveland, Syracuse, Rochester and Buffalo are anticipated to witness their first major snowfall of the season by Sunday and Monday.
The East Coast will observe temperatures more typical of late November on Sunday, with maximums reaching up to 40s and 50s degrees.
November has also been record warm for most of the western and central United States. As of Wednesday, only 1% of the USA was snow-covered, far below the average of 13%.
