Tropical Storm 23 S

United States and United Kingdom both are witnessing rare April snow. Generally, after March, these activities recede and become very rare. Such snow is bringing in chaos and extreme weather activities are a sight in USA and UK.

In the United States, a low-pressure area is travelling from mid-west (Chicago, Dakota, Detroit) to the eastern board of the US (New Jersey, New York, Washington D.C., Virginia, New England etc.), plummeting temperatures to far below normal. Since Thursday morning, strong winds have started blowing and as per the experts it would continue for the coming 48 hours as well. As we approach Sunday, it would move further ahead. In the meantime, temperature records in Alaska have been shattered in March, making it the warmest March to date for many locations in the state.

Heading towards Europe, particularly United Kingdom is reeling under snow, the spring snow which is once again very uncommon in the month of April. Gale winds speeding up to 80 kmph led stormy weather has already affected many parts of Cardiff, Belfast, London, Birmingham, Glasgow and Edinburgh. Again, such weather activity would be a sight over these areas till this weekend.

The trail of these weather systems can be seen in many parts of Spain and Madrid. Single digit temperature due to continuous rains have been recorded over these areas. While, this weather activity is expected to get cleared up from this area soon.

While in South America, many parts of Peru, Bolivia, Paraguay and South Brazil have been affected due to warming of Pacific Ocean courtesy El Nino. Large areas are under the affect of thunderstorm with high velocity winds. Peru has already witnessed several bouts of floods.

Coming to the central Asian regions, Mediterranean Sea and Caspian Sea are aiding these weather systems. To this, Iran is one fine example. Iran’s large area in the Northern province of Golestan and Mazandran have witnessed flood situations. Also, Iraq has also declared emergency for seven of its districts. While looking at the present conditions, Iraq has extended caution for likely floods in the coming days.

Since we are talking globally, many parts of Central India are reeling under heatwave conditions. Gujarat, West Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra have already crossed the mark of 40°C. Khargone has already recorded season’s highest temperature at 45°C. While, the northeastern states are undergoing prolong wet spells. Lightning with heavy rain and thunderstorms has been a regular sight over northeastern states. This would be a week-long activity with varying intensity.

Whereas, Australia has gone through extreme heatwave conditions. They have recorded warmest March. Now, there is a tropical storm named as 23S is at present 300 kms of Northwest Darwin and 200 kms away from the northern coast of Australia. It is in Timor Sea and is moving at a speed of 70 kmph. This storm would remain in the sea, gather strength and become Category I on the third day wherein the wind speed will be around 120 kmph. It will first move west/southwest, then it would move southwest and finally it would head towards more of South. When it would head towards South, then it would enter the Indian Ocean. Till date maximum number of storms have affected the Australian region.
