Hefty rains have been lashing several parts of China for quite some time now. The southern region has been receiving torrential rains which have been causing flood-like situation since the month of April. During the last week, about 260 mm of rain has been recorded with winds gusting up to 200 kmph.
Until now, floods have claimed 186 lives. Not only this, due to these flooding rains, over 32 million people across 26 provinces have been affected. As per the figures by the government, a loss of over $8.5 billion has been estimated. In fact, these figures are likely to increase even further.
Last week, Tropical storm Nepartak caused heavy rains over the city of Wuhan. To add to it, flood waters in the Anhui province have even developed the fear of alligators in the region. In the Fujian province, over 341 trains were cancelled.
As per reports, water levels in over 100 rivers in Jiangxi, Jiangsu, Hubei, Hunan, Guizhou and Guangxi have exceeded danger levels. The worst is not over yet. In fact, if heavy downpours strike the upper reaches of the Yangtse River, more flooding may occur in late July or early days of August.
