Wet and windy weather likely over UK for Christmas weekend

Christmas UK

According to weathermen, 2016 is likely to end with a spell of unsettled, however mild weather for United Kingdom.

It looks like the weather will be relatively mild, so unlikely to see much of a white Christmas. But there’s still a long way, so a fair amount of uncertainty can be expected.

Wintery showers are likely over the higher reaches of Scotland towards the middle of the week. Meanwhile the rest of the UK will witness wind and rain.

Temperatures are expected to swing from mild to bitterly cold in the coming days. While overnight temperatures may drop below freezing in some places, it will remain mild during the day.

This will cause changeable and at times very unsettled weather conditions as we move close to the Christmas period and towards New Year.

This change in weather pattern can be attributed to the successive deep depressions in the Atlantic, bringing bands of heavy rain and gusts across most of the UK.

The strong gales could trigger Storm Barbara with the unsettled weather wreaking havoc.

As per experts, it might be too early to confirm whether the storm would be named around the festive period.

Past weekend, there was major travel disruption due to heavy fog at airports in the south, leading to massive delays and cancellations. This situation is expected to continue for air travellers.
