The widely popular tourist destination is located near the Sirohi District at a height of 1,220 meters above sea level. Mount Abu nests in the Aravalli mountain range and continues to be a popular retreat for visitors from around the world. It packs the scenic beauty of a hill station along with the colorfulness and bubbliness of the Rajasthani culture.

The best time to visit is between the months of February to April and August to November. However, Mount Abu is an all-season hill station as the climate is generally pleasant with only summers experiencing maximum temperatures in the 30s. Winters are generally cold with day temperatures plummeting to as low as 12°C. During monsoon, the region experiences moderate showers and the colors in the surrounding mountains come alive. Dilwara Jain Temples

The Dilwara Jain Temples were built around the 11th and 13th century and are located at a distance of about 2.5 km from Mount Abu. The temples are famous for their extensive use of marble which includes intricate detailing and elaborate structuring. The premises are home to 5 temples with engravings depicting various scene of Hindu and Jain mythology.

Nakki Lake

Nakki Lake is both an ancient as well as sacred lake located in Mount Abu. It is an extremely popular tourist destination which is famous for picnics, treks in the nearby regions, boating, and the Gandhi Ghat which was built after Mahatma Gandhi’s ashes were immersed here.

Abu Road

Abu Road isn’t really Mount Abu, but its close proximity and picturesque surroundings make it a must visit for all tourists. Abu Road is located near the Banas River and is home to several temples, marketplaces, and the locally prepared ’Rabri’ which is simply lip-smacking. While groups do visit regularly, Abu Road is more suited for a loner.

Mount Abu Wildlife Sanctuary

The forest located in the Aravalli mountain range is home to a wide variety of flora and fauna. The forest was declared a wildlife sanctuary in 1980 and is spread over an area of 288 sq. kilometers. The major attraction continues to be the leopard but some 250 species of birds are also found in the sanctuary.

Guru Shikhar

Guru Shikhar is the highest point in Mount Abu and is also the highest point in the Aravalli mountain range. A scenic panoramic view awaits those who reach the spot. Guru Shikhar is located at a height of 1,722 meters above sea level and offers several vantage points to trekkers and wanderers.

Trevor’s Tank

Trevor’s Tank is a man-made crocodile breeding spot situated at a distance of about 5 km from Mount Abu. It is named after the British engineer who originally built it. The lush green surroundings allow you to observe the crocodiles and other fauna in a relaxing manner. It is a good spot for photographers and is also suitable for family picnics.

Achalgarh

The fort of Achalgarh was originally built by the Paramara Dynasty rulers and was rebuilt in 1452. Achalgarh, or ‘the immovable’, is known for its elaborate structuring and historical significance. It houses a 3 foot impression of Lord Shiva in a temple which is regularly visited by tourists.

Sunset Point

Last but surely not the least, the sunset point located near the Nakki Lake is a popular tourist attaraction in Mount Abu. The point offers a majestic view of the entire mountain valley as well as the Nakki Lake.
