Orange Alert Issued in the Areas of Dehradun of Uttarakhand

The weather department has announced another rain spell over the Uttarakhand state and issued an Orange alert in several rain-prone districts of the said state. The weather office has predicted heavy rains on Tuesday, ie on the 18th of August. Heavy torrential rainfall will be continued till the weekend, said the weather forecasting office. The entire state has been issued a yellow alert till Friday as per the Indian Met Department.

Dehradun, Rudraprayag, Champawat, Pauri Garhwal, Udham Singh Nagar Chamoli, Uttarkashi, Pithoragarh, Almora, and Bageshwar have been issued are the districts with an Orange Alert issued by the IMD. All these regions are going to face severe rainfall on the 18th of August. Previously, the IMD had issued yellow alerts for some of the aforementioned districts of Uttarakhand.

Each district is expected to receive this torrential downpour as per the meteorological department on Tuesday till the weekend. Uttarakhand is prone to rain for the past few days triggering numerous landslides and claiming lives residing in the rain-related and rain-affected areas of the state. Many lives have been claimed due to these rain-related incidents and torrential downpours.

Taking note of IMD’s prediction, the state weather office of Bihar has put a yellow alert issue on every district except Madhubani, Sitamarhi, Muzaffarpur, Saharsa, Purnia, and Kathihar which fell under the Orange Alert issue on Tuesday. The districts under the orange alert are going to receive rain throughout the day as per the prediction. Each state belonging to the northeastern part of India is going to witness ‘heavy to very heavy’ rainfall till coming Wednesday and isolated heavy rainfall for the upcoming three days continuously.

It has been reported that the rainwater has successfully made its way and flowed down the steps of a temple located in Dehradun city called the Tapkeshwar Mahadev Temple. It has been noted that around 31 lives have been claimed in Uttarakhand due to rain-related incidents so far. Continuous heavy rainfall has resulted in landslides, flash floods, and house collapses so far in Uttarakhand.

Land sinking concerns were raised in the Joshimath after the land collapses occurred in the Sunil and Singhdhar areas of Uttarakhand. Around 1,095 houses were partially destructed, 99 houses were severely affected, and 32 houses were completely destroyed by the heavy torrential rainfall looming over Uttarakhand. The monsoon disasters are gradually increasing in the hill-prone state of India and in the northeastern states.

The highways are probably going to be blocked due to frequent landslides. Incidents related to boulders falling may surface in due time because of the rain. Residents living near lakes, small rivers, and streams are advised to be cautious and on alert. Possible mountain landslides may occur at any given time. Regional officers are highly advised and requested to monitor these situations and be on alert and take necessary security measures. Farmers are requested to secure the cut vegetables and crops in a safe place away from the contact of rain. Travelers and passengers are requested to be safe while on a journey.
