In the last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Thursday, Goalprara recorded heavy rain to the tune of 121 mm, followed by Guwahati at 64.4 mm, Mazbat 30.6 mm, Bhubri 17.2 mm, North Lakhimpur 13.6 mm and Dibrugarh 4.8 mm of rains.
Thus, river Brahmaputra is also overflowing as the catchment areas are also receiving extremely heavy rains along with rainfall activity over the state. Flood situation remains grim over the state. Thousands of relief camps have been set up where almost 1.5 lakh residents have taken shelter.
Biswanath, Karbi Anglong East, Karbi Anglong West, Golaghat, Karimganj, and Hailakandi are the most affected districts in Assam. As per Skymet Weather, rains are likely to continue as the cyclonic circulation over Assam and adjoining areas continues to persist. No relief is in the forecast for the residents of Assam.

In the last 24 hours from 8:30 on Wednesday, North Lakhimpur recorded heavy rain to the tune of 92 mm, followed by Goalpara at 91 mm, Tinsukia 62 mm, Silchar 61 mm, Golaghat 54 mm, Dhubri 53 mm, Guwahati 38 mm, Jorhat 34 mm, Tezpur 33 mm, Dibrugarh 32 mm and Lumding 31 mm of rains.
Assam has been recording extremely hefty showers in wake of the depression which formed in the Bay of Bengal and now after weakening, lies as a cyclonic circulation over Assam and adjoining Nagaland. Moreover, the mighty Brahmaputra River which runs through the state is also overflowing in the wake of the rains across Northeast India.
Thus, flash floods have occurred in the state of Assam affecting thousands of people. As per media reports, Biswanath, Karbi Anglong East, Karbi Anglong West, Golaghat, Karimganj, and Hailakandi are the most affected districts.
Over 10,000 relief camps have been set up in Assam, where approximately 1.5 lakh people have taken shelter. In fact, crops in over a thousand hectares have been damaged in wake of floods triggered by overflowing rivers and hefty showers.
Many trains have also been cancelled traveling to or from Assam and adjoining regions. It is anticipated that heavy showers would continue to occur, therefore the situation is unlikely to improve in the state of Assam in the coming days also.
