Following a significant period of rainfall, Amritsar is set to experience a shift towards drier weather conditions. The city has registered a notable 50 mm of rain in the last 24 hours, capping off a wet July and ushering in August with substantial precipitation.

This recent wet spell was attributed to a Western Disturbance, which had been present as a trough in the region. However, this system has now weakened and is becoming less marked. Consequently, a change in wind patterns is expected across Northwest India, including Punjab and Amritsar. The current easterly, humid winds are predicted to be replaced by drier winds blowing in from the west.

This transition will bring about a noticeable reduction in humidity levels. Residents can anticipate clearer skies and the return of bright sunshine, which will, in turn, lead to a subsequent rise in temperatures.

While the monsoon season is still some time away from its withdrawal from Northwest India, the incoming dry westerly winds are expected to significantly decrease the prevailing humidity, marking the end of this recent rainy interlude.
