Much-Needed Rain Incoming for Bihar!

The state is currently battling a large monsoon rainfall deficit, but a wet spell ahead could narrow the gap significantly. Heavy to very heavy rainfall may not be far behind, especially in northern districts. Foothill regions face the highest flood risk as intense showers build from early August.

  • Rain intensity to increase from August 1 onward
  • Heavy to very heavy rain likely in foothill and northern districts from August 2–5

Aug 2–Aug 5

  • Heavy to very heavy rain expected in the north and foothills: Champaran, Sitamarhi, Madhubani, Darbhanga, Muzaffarpur, Kishanganj, Araria, Supaul, Purnea, Bhagalpur Temperature Forecast:
  • Max temperatures to remain in check, mostly low 30s (30–33°C)
  • No significant heatwave expected in the coming week

What’s Brewing?

  • Two cyclonic circulations driving rainfall:
  1. One over Rajasthan–Madhya Pradesh (remnant of Typhoon Whifa)
  2. Second over Gangetic West Bengal
  • Seasonal monsoon trough connecting both systems lies close to Bihar
  • Trough to shift northward soon, boosting rainfall
  • 'Break-in-Monsoon' condition expected, increasing flood risk in north Bihar
