Mumbai Rains To Ease Out Tomorrow: Next Surge Around Month End Weekend
Jun 19, 2025, 2:01 PM | Skymet Weather TeamModerate showers embedded with isolated heavy downpours lashed Mumbai and suburbs during the last 24 hours. Incessant rains over the last couple of days in the catchment areas have resulted in the overflow of the artificial lake at Powai. The rains have been intermittently heavy over Mumbai, Thane, Palghar, Raigad, and Navi Mumbai. Train services have been partially disrupted. Schools in some areas have been closed. Air operations continued, albeit with delays due to the cascading effect.
South Mumbai had heavier rains than the northern and central parts. Colaba observatory recorded 143mm rainfall in 24 hours, whereas Santacruz registered 60mm rainfall during the same period. Colaba and Santacruz have amassed 449mm and 377mm rainfall during this month so far. The monthly normal rainfall for the city stands at 493.1mm for June. Rains are expected to ease out anytime soon.
There is a cyclonic circulation over Northeast Rajasthan and another one over Southwest Rajasthan from the remnant of a low-pressure area. Yet another cyclonic circulation over the Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh region, though a bit far, is providing support in conjunction with the other two systems. The Rajasthan weather systems will not last long and may possibly get filled up over the next 24–36 hours. The low pressure and associated circulation over the Jharkhand region will travel westward across the Indo-Gangetic plains, tracking along the borderlines of Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh.
Mumbai rains are likely to slow down substantially tomorrow and become further frail over the weekend. Light to moderate rains will continue with a chance of one odd sharp and heavy shower embedded in between. The next spike is likely around the weekend in the last days of the month. This increase will be on account of another monsoon system coming up over the Bay of Bengal and its subsequent drift inland.
