The month of August is the most volatile for monsoon rains. The capital city recorded 400.1 mm and 390.3 mm of rainfall in August 2025 and 2024, and 91.8 mm and 41.6 mm of rainfall in August 2023 and 2022, respectively. With more heavy showers likely during this week, the city will have a hat-trick of excess rains in August.

There is a low-pressure area over Northwest Madhya Pradesh, with an associated circulation extending up to medium levels. A Western Disturbance, as an upper-air system, is moving across the northern mountains. The interaction between the two systems will cause moderate to heavy showers over the Delhi region today. The low-pressure area will weaken tomorrow over the same region and finally merge with the monsoon trough. The remnant effect of the system will give patchy rains tomorrow and the day after as well.

There is a likelihood of a fresh low-pressure area forming over the Northwest Bay of Bengal tomorrow. The system will move inland quickly, and the cyclonic circulation will track along the West Bengal, Odisha, Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh region. This will revive the monsoon trough activity over and around the Delhi region.

Once again, intense showers are likely on 14th and 15th August 2026. A slowdown is expected from 16th onward, when the monsoon trough will shift far to the north, along the foothills of Uttarakhand and West Uttar Pradesh.

The day temperature is expected to stay below 35°C during the week. On rainy days, like today, Friday and Saturday, the maximum will get arrested at or below 32°C. Exercise caution for localized waterlogging in some areas during this week on account of moderate to heavy rains.
