Monsoon Forecast for July 12, 2018: Monsoon rain in Mumbai, Konkan, Gujarat, MP

The axis of Monsoon trough has slightly changed its position and is now passing through Firozpur, Alwar, Tikamgarh, Sidhi, Ambikapur, Chaibasa, Digha and then east-southeastwards to east central Bay of Bengal.

During the last 24 hours, Monsoon remained vigorous over South Gujarat and Konkan & Goa including Mumbai; while active Monsoon conditions were witnessed over Kerala, isolated pockets of Interior Tamil Nadu, Vidarbha, many parts of Madhya Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh.
Major rainfall contribution came from Valsad that recorded 135 mm of rains, followed by Mahabaleshwar 123 mm and Mumbai wherein Santa Cruz saw 114 mm.

As on July 10, the countrywide cumulative rainfall is deficient by 9%. Division-wise, South India is the only sub-division, i.e. rainfall surplus by 12%, else Northwest, Central and East & Northeast India are rain deficient by 11%, 3% and 25%, respectively.

During the next 24 hours, southern and western parts of Madhya Pradesh would observe vigorous Monsoon conditions that would give heavy to very heavy rains.

Monsoon will remain active over Southeast Rajasthan, South Gujarat, Konkan & Goa, Coastal Karnataka, Kerala, Vidarbha and parts of Chhattisgarh that would see moderate showers with one or two heavy spells.

Heavy Mumbai rains will now also take a break, but moderate showers will continue over the region.

Meanwhile, Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, West Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand, parts of Odisha, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, Northeastern states, parts of Telangana and Coastal Andhra Pradesh would witness normal Monsoon conditions that could give light to moderate rains.

Parts of Punjab, Haryana and Delhi may also see few spells of Monsoon rains during the next 24 hours.
