Monsoon Forecast for June 15, 2018: Heavy rain in Kerala, Karnataka and Northeast

During the last 24 hours Southwest Monsoon did not advance any further. Thus, the Northern Limit of Monsoon continues to pass through Thane including Mumbai, Ahmednagar, Buldhana, Amravati, Gondia, Titlagarh, Cuttack, Midnapore, Goalpara and Baghdogra. In fact, Monsoon will not further advance during the next few days as well.

In the last 24 hours, Monsoon remained vigorous over Northeast India and parts of Kerala. Meanwhile, Coastal Karnataka, Sikkim and Sub Himalayan West Bengal saw active Monsoon conditions.

Major rainfall contribution came from Cherrapunji that saw 282 mm of rains followed by Karipur at 201 mm, and Thrissur 128 mm of rains.

During the last 24 hours, the countrywide rainfall was surplus by 27%. With this, seasonal rain surplus stands at 19 percent surplus. Central and Southern India remained rain surplus by 56 percent and 79 percent, respectively. Meanwhile, North India and East and Northeast India are rain deficient by 12 and 31 percent, respectively.

In the next 24 hours, Northeast India along with Sikkim, Sub Himalayan West Bengal, parts of Kerala and South Coastal Karnataka will observe vigorous Monsoon conditions. Remaining parts of Coastal Karnataka will witness Active Monsoon conditions.

Meanwhile, Monsoon will remain normal to subdued over Konkan and Goa, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Odisha and parts of Chhattisgarh
