The axis of monsoon trough continues to run close to the foothills of the Himalayas. With this, Monsoon remained vigorous over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, Assam and parts of Arunachal Pradesh during the last 24 hours. At the same time, active monsoon conditions were witnessed over Himachal Pradesh.
In the last 24 hours, major rainfall contribution came from Cherrapunji in Meghalaya recorded 126 mm of rain, followed by Jalpaiguri 83 mm, Pasighat 74 mm and Cooch Behar 54 mm.
As on September 13, the country wide rainfall deficiency remains at 8 percent. South India is the only sub-division with surplus rains of 2%. Meanwhile, northwest, central and east & northeast India are still rain deficient by 4%, 4% and 23%, respectively.

During the next 24 hours, Normal Monsoon conditions would give light to moderate rains over most parts of the country such as Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, North Punjab, North Haryana, foothills of East Uttar Pradesh, foothills of Bihar, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim and Northeastern states.
In fact, Parts of Jharkhand, North Chhattisgarh, Northeast Madhya Pradesh, parts of Rayalaseema, South Interior Karnataka and Tamil Nadu will also observe similar rainfall activities. Meanwhile, Monsoon will remain subdued over South Uttar Pradesh, parts of East Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Gangetic West Bengal, Odisha and Coastal Andhra Pradesh.
