Weather Forecast Aug 9: Very heavy rains forecast for Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh, floods likely

Starting with Central India where the most weather activity seems concentrated right now. Now, the Depression has weakened and has become a Well-Marked Low. The system at present, lies over extreme West Madhya Pradesh and adjoining Southeast Rajasthan. Thus, heavy to very heavy rains are likely at some places over Gujarat and extreme West Madhya Pradesh. Flooding conditions might also develop in parts of Gujarat and Southwest Madhya Pradesh.

Now the rainfall activity is likely to reduce significantly over Chhattisgarh, East Madhya Pradesh and interior Maharashtra. While the cities of Mumbai and Ratnagiri will see enhanced activity and heavy rains on August 9 and 10.

Coming on to East India! The eastern end of Axis of Monsoon Trough is now likely to shift Northwards, and is likely to move across Bihar, Northwest Bengal and then towards Arunachal Pradesh across Assam. Thus, marginal intensification of rains is likely over Bihar and some parts of North West Bengal. Entire Northeast be it Assam, Arunachal Pradesh or Sikkim, will continue with light rains. A few moderate spells can also be seen at some places. While a mainly dry weather will prevail over parts of Jharkhand, Odisha and Gangetic West Bengal. Patchy rains are likely in Kolkata.

Talking about North India! Here eastern parts of Rajasthan will observe moderate to heavy spells in districts like that of Chittorgarh, Mount Abu, Udaipur, Kota and Baran. While extreme Northwest parts of Punjab, Haryana and West Uttar Pradesh will remain mainly dry with patchy rains at a few places. Delhi too will remain mainly dry for the next few days. Temperatures are now set to rise over Punjab, Haryana, Delhi and West Uttar Pradesh. A few short spells of showers may occur at some parts of Southern Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand and extreme South of Jammu and Kashmir.

Lastly in South India! Due to an active off-shore Trough, heavy to very heavy rains will continue over Goa, coast of Karnataka and Kerala. A few moderate spells are likely over North Interior Karnataka and Interior Kerala. Rainfall will reduce over Telangana, Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu. Warm and humid weather will prevail over Tamil Nadu and Rayalaseema.
Weather in Bengaluru will remain mainly comfortable with chances of light rains. Chennai on the other hand will see no rains along with humid weather.
