Weather Forecast for Dec 22: Rains in Tamil Nadu, parts of Karnataka, Kerala and Andhra

To begin with South India, a trough of low is extending from the coast of Sri Lanka up till interior parts of Tamil Nadu. Thus, light to moderate and thundershower activities will continue over most parts of the state. Moderate spells will be seen mainly over Nilgiri and central parts of Tamil Nadu.

Few parts of South Andhra Pradesh, South Karnataka and Kerala will also see light rains during next 24 hours. Whereas, Telangana and North Karnataka will remain dry with rise in temperatures.

In East/Northeast India, a cyclonic circulation is prevailing over Bangladesh and a trough is extending from Sub Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim up till north Bay of Bengal. With this, light rain can be seen at some places of Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya and Sikkim for next 24 hours, thereafter going dry.

There will be a further drop in night temperatures over eastern states of Bihar and Jharkhand and minimums will remain below normal by 3-4°C. Light to moderate fog with comfortable days and sunny day is expected.

Heading towards Central India, minimum temperatures are expected to rise gradually over Kutch of Gujarat, West Madhya Pradesh, Konkan and Madhya Maharashtra. Thus, cold wave conditions will gradually abate from Kutch and Madhya Pradesh after 24 hours.

Up in North, hills will continue to witness dry weather with chilly winds during the day. Ground frost will be seen over the plains of Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh.

In the plains of the country, winds will become very light and would change into easterly/south-easterly light winds. Thus, minimum temperatures will rise gradually across Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, and Rajasthan, bringing in respite from the cold wave conditions that are likely to abate soon.

Talking about pollution, the Air Quality over Delhi-NCR has deteriorated once again. The levels will maintain in ‘very poor’ zone with increased intensity.
