January 24, 2020 5:43 PM |

A fresh Western Disturbance is over Jammu and Kashmir. In the wake of this weather system, scattered light to moderate snow is likely in Jammu and Kashmir, parts of Ladakh and Himachal Pradesh. While isolated light rain or snow is expected in the higher reaches of Uttrakhand. Its impact will not be seen much over the northern plains. Meanwhile, dry and cold north-westerlies will continue to blow over the plains. The speed of winds may decrease and a marginal rise in the minimums of Punjab, Haryana, Delhi and West Uttar Pradesh is expected.

A Cyclonic Circulation lies over South Assam. And a trough from this cyclonic circulation is extending up to the foothills of Bihar across Sub-Himalayan West Bengal. Therefore, we expect light to moderate rain or snow in Arunachal Pradesh. Light rain is also expected in Assam, Sikkim, and Sub-Himalayan West Bengal. Dry weather conditions will prevail in East India. There will be a further drop in the minimums of East Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand, Gangetic West Bengal and Odisha.

An Anti-cyclone is over Vidarbha. In the last two days, the night temperature of Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Vidarbha has dropped significantly. But now, the minimums of these states will remain stable. While there may be a drop of 1-2 degrees Celsius in Rajasthan and Gujarat.

In the absence of any weather system, the weather of South Peninsula will remain dry. Humid north-easterlies from the Bay of Bengal will continue to feed moisture to Tamil Nadu. Therefore, isolated light rains are possible in the southern districts of Coastal Tamil Nadu. The weather in the remaining parts of South India will remain dry.
