Weather Forecast June 7: Monsoon arrival nears in Kerala, widespread rains over Lakshadweep, Kerala, Karnataka

Starting with South India, where all eyes are on the onset of Southwest Monsoon, a Cyclonic Circulation has built up over Lakshadweep Area. A Trough is also extending from East Uttar Pradesh up to Kerala across interior Karnataka. In the wake of these weather systems, fairly widespread rain and thundershowers are expected over Lakshadweep, Kerala and Karnataka. This might lead to onset of Monsoon anytime now.

Scattered rains are also possible over Rayalaseema. While isolated rains are in store for Telangana, Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Interior Tamil Nadu. Moderate rains may also occur over Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

Coming to East and Northeast India, a Cyclonic Circulation can be seen over Bangladesh and its adjoining areas. Moderate winds from the Bay of Bengal are feeding moisture to the Northeastern states. Therefore, we expect light to moderate rains with one or two heavy spells over Tripura, Meghalaya and West Assam. Scattered rains and thundershower are also expected over rest of Northeast India and Sub-Himalayan West Bengal. While, Gangetic West Bengal and Odisha may also get to see short spells of intense rains during afternoon and evening hours. Isolated rains may occur over Jharkhand. East Uttar Pradesh and Bihar will, however, remain almost dry.

Talking about Central India, here heat wave conditions are expected at many places like Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Vidarbha. Due to a North-South Trough, scattered rains are possible over South Chhattisgarh, South Madhya Maharashtra, Konkan and Goa. Isolated rain is possible over Marathwada. The weather in Gujarat will also remain dry and hot.

Lastly in Northwest India, rains will reduce over Jammu-Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh. Weather will become almost dry with only light rains at one or two places. Northern plains of Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, West Uttar Pradesh and North Rajasthan will also observe dry weather conditions. Severe heat wave conditions are expected to continue in North Rajasthan. Isolated places in Punjab, Haryana and Delhi may experience heat wave conditions as temperatures in Northern Plains are expected to rise gradually.
