3-digit Monsoon rains batter Coastal Karnataka, Konkan & Goa; more heavy showers likely

Rain in West CoastWith the onset of Monsoon 2017, rains have taken vigorous turn along the West Coast. In fact, last 24 hours saw very heavy to extremely rainfall over parts of Coastal Karnataka and Konkan & Goa.

Few areas have also record three-digit rainfall as well. Harnai recorded 320 mm of rain ins pan of 24 hours from 8:30 am on Friday. This was followed by Honavar that received 151 mm and Ratnagiri 133 mm.

Meanwhile, Panjim witnesses 87 mm of rain, Karwar 80 mm, Vengurla 64 mm, Dahanu 59 mm, Mangalore 48 mm, Alibag 32 mm and Mumbai 38 mm.

According to Skymet weather, the off shore running along the West Coast has kept Monsoon surge vigorous over the region. Besides this, a cyclonic circulation is also seen over North Madhya Maharashtra and coastal Maharashtra, which is further enhancing the rains over the region.

Live status of Lightning and thunderstorm across IndiaAt present also, heavy rains and thundershowers are lashing most parts of Coastal Karnataka and Konkan & Goa. In span of three hours from 8:30 am to 11:30 am, Karwar recorded 34 mm of rain, Honavar 33 mm and Mangalore 16 mm.

Weathermen predict that moderate to heavy rains with isolated very heavy showers will continue over these regions today as well.

This spell of rains will also be responsible for the advancement of Monsoon further during the next 24-48 hours. This time it will also cover Mumbai as well.
