A 6.2 magnitude of earthquake reportedly jolted Afghanistan-Tajikistan border today afternoon. The tremors of the quake were felt in the neighboring Pakistan and parts of North India as well.
The upheaval was strong enough to shake buildings in the capital city, Kabul, however, any update on damage to life or property have not been reported so far. The quake was felt at around 4:15 pm (IST) in the North Indian states of Punjab, Haryana, Delhi and the hilly terrains of Jammu and Kashmir.
As per United States Geological Survey or USGS, the quake struck Afghanistan-Tajikistan border at a depth of 111.9 km, about 67 kilometers south of Khorugh, the provincial capital.

Delhi and NCR are situated on the top of few active seismic fault lines and this makes the city vulnerable to the shaking of the earth’s crust. Additionally, it is in close proximity to the other active seismic fault lines.
Earlier today, a 5.5 magnitude temblor was also felt in Pakistan, in the Swat Valley and Peshawar, bordering Afghanistan. The epicenter of this quake was the city of Bannu and was at a depth of 12 km. This quake injured at least nine children and caused panic amongst the residents.
