A fresh Western Disturbance has induced a Cyclonic Circulation over West Rajasthan and a  trough is extending up to Uttar Pradesh from this system. Due to the weather systems, scattered rains commenced over parts of Punjab like Amritsar and Ludhiana Friday evening onward.

These rains are likely to continue and extend covering many parts of Punjab and Haryana until Monday. A few intense spells of rain and hailstorm activities are also likely to affect parts of these states. The intensity of these rains will be more today evening and will continue until tomorrow morning.

Major places like Amritsar, Ludhiana, Hisar, Ambala, Chandigarh, Pathankot, Karnal, Jind, Faridabad, Gurgaon, Karnal, Kurukshetra, Panchkula, Panipat, Rohtak, Sirsa, Sonipat and Yamunanagar are likely to witness rains.

Meteorologists at Skymet, predict a cold and wet Shivratri this Monday, as we expect on and off rains to continue over many parts of Punjab and Haryana. Weather systems will move away from the region Monday onward, but we expect isolated rains to continue till Tuesday over both the states. The intensity, however, would have decreased significantly.

In these two to three days, we expect day temperatures to fall by a significant 3 to 4 degree Celsius. Many parts will witness temperatures below 20°C or in the lower 20s. Minimums initially will increase but will fall Tuesday onward in western parts of Punjab and Haryana. On Wednesday, the remaining parts of the states will also observe drop in night temperatures.

Temperatures will begin to rise only by March 7 or 8. This increase will mark the commencement of Summers over both the states.
