The last two days saw the heaviest spell of the season over Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand. So much so that such heavy rain and snow amounted to mudslides, landslides, road closures, air traffic delay, disruption in connectivity.

Active WD spent some time over the hills of North India and observed inclement weather conditions. Gulmarg in two days recorded 86 mm of rains, Qazigund 56 mm, Srinagar 45 mm, all these are close to their monthly figures.

While the region almost observed dry weather through January, the last few days resulted in good rains, nearly catching up to rains with Jammu and Kashmir seeing above normal rains, Himachal Pradesh normal and Uttarakhand with slight deficit. This spell has resulted in a total whiteout over the hilly regions.

In the coming days, weather will improve today and tomorrow. Another feeble system is coming over the hills on February 2 but will be very mild and will be confined to higher reaches. In the month of February as it is, disturbances are frequent and short lived. In the next ten days or so, good weather is likely over these regions.
