After highest-ever July rains, August to start on a rainy note for Mumbai

After the highest-ever July rains, the first week of August is going to be rainy for Mumbai and suburbs. Last week of July remained rainy for Mumbai and suburbs. Colaba observatory of Mumbai recorded moderate to heavy rains throughout the week. However, light to moderate rains was witnessed by Santacruz observatory of Mumbai.

Thane and adjoining suburbs areas have also witnessed intense showers during the last week of July. Although, these rains were not widespread and continuous. Waterlogging was also witnessed over isolated low-lying areas.

We expect rain activities to increase over Mumbai and suburbs by the evening of August 2nd. These activities are expected to continue until August 6th. During this period, there are good chances of few heavy and intense spells letting Mumbai and suburbs.

July is the rainiest month for Mumbai with a monthly average of 840.7 mm. This year, Mumbai has already recorded 1502 mm rain which is the highest ever rainfall received by Mumbai in the month of July. Despite the highest July rain, Mumbai has not witnessed severe waterlogging and flash floods, as these rains were well distributed throughout the month.
